When conducting a Preview of an iOS device you know there are more pictures in the DCIM folder than are being shown in the picture gallery.

The Preview function is connecting with the iOS device on a logical level and is not collecting any cloud data or data contained in an encrypted iTunes backup, therefore you may not see any many pictures or videos as expected. An Advanced Logical Acquisition will get more data than a preview.

Starting with DEI 2.2.0, performing a live scan of a Windows 32-bit computer is no longer supported. These computers are rare and do not justify the extensive development effort that ADF can use elsewhere.

If you need to scan a computer running Windows 32-bit you have a few options:

  1. Often times, these computers have a 64-bit CPU with Windows 32-bit installed on them. In this case, you can perform a boot scan with a Collection Key.
  2. Create an image of their hard drive and scan it with the ADF desktop application.
  3. Utilize the ADF Remote Agent

If none of these methods have worked, please contact our support so we can help!

Does a livescan see all user accounts data? https://adfsolutions.com/knowledge/does-a-livescan-see-all-users-account-data/ Thu, 22 Jan 2026 13:35:31 +0000 https://adfsolutions.com/?post_type=docs&p=7849 If a device contains multiple user accounts, will a livescan recover all the data from all the different accounts even if they are password protected?

When scanning a device in live mode –

If the user account that launches start.bat from the Collection Key is an administrator account then it will be able to scan and access all the data belonging to other user accounts (administrator and standard even when password protected) – see the example below

If the user account that launches start.bat from the Collection Key is NOT an administrator account then it will need to provide administrator credentials in order to run start.bat

The preparation of a Collection Key can fail if the boot image file cannot be created.

Make sure you have full read/write permission to access the folder C:\ProgramData\ADF Solutions Inc\v4\WinPE\build.

Also, if there is a file in the directory called boot_image.vhd the previous image did not successfully finish leaving this file in a corrupted state. Delete the file, reboot the computer, and the Collection Key should prepare properly.

]]>
Please follow these steps to retrieve your removable drive serial number:

  1. Remove all plugged in USB drives from your computer.
  2. Start the Windows PowerShell (from the Start menu, search for Powershell).
  3. In the Windows PowerShell window, copy and paste the following one line command:
    gwmi Win32_USBControllerDevice |%{[wmi]($_.Dependent)} | Where-Object {($_.Description -like ‘*mass*’)} | Sort Description,DeviceID | ft Description,DeviceID -auto | Format-Table -AutoSize
  4. In the output, make sure the Description matches your drive. Copy the serial number.

⚠ The serial number can be found after the last backslash “”\”” in the DeviceID string. Do not copy the Vendor ID (VID) nor Product ID (PID) ⚠
  1. Send the serial number to the ADF support team,
    OR
Copy and paste it to the online form supplied to you to obtain your license file.

Make sure to copy/paste that information and not just retyping it as some characters might not be what they look like (o and 0 for example).
