This method makes it possible to collect digital evidence that would otherwise not be available in a advanced logical acquisition because the data is protected.<\/span><\/p>\n<!--more-->\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #038d9f;\">Taking Screenshots<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span>Mobile Device Investigator and ADF&#8217;s PRO <a href=\"\/mobile-phone-forensic-software\" rel=\" noopener\">mobile phone forensic software<\/a> products provide investigators and examiners with a <\/span>Screenshots Capture screen to use during a forensic preview or investigation. Collected at before starting the logical acquisition, an investigator can capture screens and collect data to be included with the logical acquisition. In ADF, there are 2 ways to access the Screenshots Capture screen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"background-color: transparent; text-decoration: none;\">When starting a mobile device scan, if the Search Profile contains the APPLICATIONS &gt; Screenshots Capture.<\/li>\n<li style=\"background-color: transparent; text-decoration: none;\">By navigating to Home &gt; Image Attached Devices (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.adfsolutions.com\/pro-tools\" rel=\" noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/adfsolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/google-1594672484966-1.png\" width=\"33\" height=\"14\" alt=\"ADF PRO Tools \"><\/a>) or Home &gt; Acquire Android\/iOS Devices (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.adfsolutions.com\/mobile-device-investigator\" rel=\" noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/adfsolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/google-1594672484966.png\" width=\"32\" height=\"14\" alt=\"MDI logo - Mobile Device Investigator\"><\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/adfsolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Forensic-Acquisition-Screenshots-on-a-Mobile-Device-with-MDI-and-DEI-PRO.png\" alt=\"Forensic Acquisition - Screenshots on a Mobile Device with MDI and DEI PRO\" width=\"1600\" style=\"width: 1600px;\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span>The <\/span><strong><span>Screenshots Capture<\/span><\/strong><span> screen displays the following panels:<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/adfsolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Forensic-Acquisition-Take-Screenshots-of-Mobile-Devices.png\" alt=\"Forensic Acquisition Take Screenshots of Mobile Devices\" width=\"190\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"width: 190px; float: right; margin: 0px 10px;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"line-height: 1.25;\">\n<li style=\"background-color: transparent; text-decoration: none;\"><strong><span>Screenshots (N)<\/span><\/strong><span>: shows how many screenshots have been taken, a thumbnail for each screenshot and its name. Mouse-over a thumbnail to make the <\/span>Delete<span> button visible.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background-color: transparent; text-decoration: none;\"><strong><span>Device<\/span><\/strong><span>: is the mobile device name.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background-color: transparent; text-decoration: none;\"><strong><span>Screenshot group<\/span><\/strong><span>: is used to group screenshots together as they are displayed per group on the Screenshots view in the Viewer.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background-color: transparent; text-decoration: none;\"><strong><span>Screenshot name<\/span><\/strong><span>: is assigned automatically and is a combination of the group name with an index for that group.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background-color: transparent; text-decoration: none;\"><strong><span>Comments<\/span><\/strong><span>: a comment can be assigned to the next screenshot taken. This comment is visible in the Viewer and can be part of the report.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background-color: transparent; text-decoration: none;\"><strong><span>Take Screenshot<\/span><\/strong><span> button: clicking on this button will take a copy of what is displayed on the device\u2019s screen.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"background-color: transparent; text-decoration: none;\"><strong>Continue <\/strong>button: clicking on this button will continue with the logical acquisition of the mobile device.<\/li>\n<li style=\"background-color: transparent; text-decoration: none;\"><strong><span>Finish<\/span><\/strong><span> button: this button is only offered when acquiring the mobile device instead of scanning it. When clicking <\/span>Finish<span>, the logical acquisition will only contain the screenshots and no other data.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #038d9f;\">Processing Screenshots: Digital Evidence&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span>After the screenshots have been collected, they are part of the advanced logical acquisition and need to be scanned to be processed and appear in a scan result.&nbsp;<\/span><span>If the mobile device was scanned with a Search Profile containing the Screenshots Capture then all screenshots will be processed as part of the scan. <\/span><span>If the mobile device was acquired, then the logical acquisition needs to be scanned by selecting the <\/span><strong><span>Add Phone Backup<\/span><\/strong><span> button on the <\/span><strong><span>Scan<\/span><\/strong><span> screen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Once processed, the screenshots appear in the <\/span><span>Screenshots Capture view.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #038d9f;\"><strong>Optical Character Recognition of Screenshots<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span>Captured Screenshot images are run through Optical Character Recognition within the ADF software so that evidence collected is included for analysis.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><a class=\"optech-default-btn btn-style cta_button\" href=\"https:\/\/cta-redirect.hubspot.com\/cta\/redirect\/4330725\/909050b6-2fa9-4d7f-a052-3501634cf92e\" target=\"_blank\" data-text=\"Watch: Screenshots How To Video\"><span class=\"btn-wraper\">Watch: Screenshots How To Video<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why take Digital Forensic Screenshots?
